let's talk about THE shoes

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is -His good , pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

(***Disclaimer : I am well aware that the people who read these kind of blogs are usually the ones who do not agree with me. This blog is written only with love. If you would like to share your opinion with me, you are free to do so. I always love hearing from you guys!!)

My version of just a pair of shoes

I used to have a series on my first blog called “let’s talk about _______”. They were my most “controversial” blogs. I hate controversy, but I do like writing about my opinion on very certain things. I write my blogs for conservatives, liberals, Christians, and non-Christians, but I am a Christian conservative. I classify myself as a Christian blogger. There are times when I feel like I should write about something, and other times I feel like I shouldn’t. I very rarely go into anything that’s happening in the world… simply because everything is so divided.

With all that being said, let’s dive right in.

I am sorry I am late showing up to this party. A big reason I waited was that I wanted to wait until after Easter to post about it. I also really wanted to reflect on my opinion before I broadcasted it out.

If you have been living under a rock, the shoes I am referring to are Lil Nas X’s limited shoe line. They are satanic shoes consisting of a satanic symbol, the Bible verse Luke 10:18, and a single drop of human blood.

I will say right off the bat that I am not coming for Lil Nas X nor those who have supported him in doing this. I am deeply saddened by all of this. This blog is to show the Christian perspective of everything going on. I do not intend to put anyone down, and I will repeat that often throughout this blog.

Romans 12:21 “Do not overcome evil with evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Satan wants there to be division. He wants Christians to get mad. The madder Christians get the more judgmental and hateful we look. Satan thrives off of conflict and turning people further away from God.

In today’s society, cancel culture is very extreme. If you said one wrong thing in 2001, and someone finds it, you are done for. People are fighting more and more everyday for what they believe is right and wrong. If a shoe came out that promoted racism or was anti gay (for example), I would hope that would make many people upset. I would hope that both sides would agree that it is wrong to make a profit off of hurting a certain people group.

Those shoes go against every Christian belief possible and many people find it funny how it is upsetting Christians. It makes this whole thing seem very much like a mockery. As a Christian, it does hurt me, and I cannot pretend it doesn’t.

As most of you know, I am recently married. I love my husband very much. If someone made shoes that purposely went against my husband, I would be outraged. I would defend my husband. I wouldn’t sit silent hoping that it would pass. I wouldn’t shrug it off, and say, “Oh, it’s only shoes. They are against my husband, but again, it’s only a pair of shoes.” How could I do that to my husband? I couldn’t sit back and watch people laugh. I would be so hurt, and feel so bad for him.

I love God with everything in me. Therefore, I will defend Him.

A few years ago, I read someone’s prayer that said something along the lines of, “God, help me to see what saddens you, so that, I can be sad too.” What hurts God should hurt us too.

For those that believe the shoes were only made to be aesthetic, that is not the case either. In fact, here’s a tweet from Lil Nas X, “i spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the s*** y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay. so i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”

I have a few things to say about this tweet. First being, it is so sad to see that when Lil Nas X thinks of Christians all he sees is hate. Like I said above, this is not me shaming him. I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry that he sees Christians as hateful when that’s exactly what we are called not to be. I feel sorry that it stirred up so much anger in him that he thinks doing things for Satan is the best way to heal from what he went through. I have no anger towards him, just deep sorrow.

His tweet does show his intentions with the shoes. They were not made to look cool. They were made to upset Christians. This isn’t to point my finger at him, but to show others who may have thought that originally, it wasn’t just to make Satan look cool.

I am not just sad for Lil Nas X… I am sad for others who are okay with all of this hate towards Christians. I am sad to see the world stray further away from God everyday.

I want you to understand that no matter your story… God is there waiting for you. You are not too far gone. I am no Biblical scholar, but if you need some encouragement, I would be happy to talk to you. I didn’t write this blog to put others down. My goal was only to share why I am hurt and to lift up those who are in need of God.

I have nothing but love for each of you. When I end my blog saying, “You are all loved and appreciated,” I mean it.

“… If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and go and search for the one that is lost? And if it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.” Matthew 18:12-13
